If you love the beautiful sounds of electroacoustic pop then you have probably already heard of Polar Caps, a.ka. singer-songwriter/producer Owen Hughes-Holland. You might have also glanced upon his delicious face in The Guardian, sharing a stage with Example, or in some of the sweetest music videos on YouTube. He has absoutely rocketed in 2013, and with some serious buzz surrounding Owen, 2014 could well be his year! I asked the questions we are all dying to know, starting with the bleeding obvious.
Hi Polar Caps, is this the name on your passport? Where did Polar Caps come from?
Hey! No it's not, my real name is Owen! Polar Caps came to me randomly one morning as I was waking up.
2013 was amazing for you! What was your most memorable bit?
I think probably shooting the video for my forthcoming single, Northern Lights, that was a lot of fun. Shot quite a lot of it under water as well, which was interesting at times.
How is 2014 shaping up?
Great thanks! Just toured France and Switzerland, loved it out there! Now I'm back in the UK to finish writing my second EP.
Is that real family video footage in your Lightspeed video?
Yes it is, all the footage is from my childhood. Took a while going through it all haha! My family have also featured in my video 'Will You...' They love it!
What did you want to be when you were little?
A wrestler. Bit of a joke really, with my frame and build.
If you could move at Lightspeed where would you go?
I'd probably drop by Mars. See what is/isn't going on.
What's the best idea you've ever had?
Contact lenses that are sunglasses. No panda eyes! Pretty sure someone has probably beaten me to it.
Have you ever used Twitter to start a beef with another celebrity?
No, but there's plenty of celebs that I'd like to eat some beef with.
What did you have for breakfast today?
Porridge with raisins.
Do you work out?
When I have time. I used to go to the gym three times a week, but it's difficult nowadays!
Which kids' TV programmes do you reminisce about?
Round The Twist. Used to watch that religiously.
Have you ever, or will you ever, attempt a stage dive?
Crowd surfed, but never stage dived. Never say never!
Do you have any gossip about any fellow electro-pop acts?
What's your advice for music acts just starting out?
I'd say just promote yourself as much as you can, and keep your material fresh and exciting.
If money were no object, what project would you do next?
I'd really just keep on promoting Polar Caps. It's my baby after all.
