Last weekend I gave a talk on blogging at the Southbank Centre's Web We Want Festival, and I'll be writing about that of course, but the after-party was something I couldn't wait to share! If you've ever meandered down the glorious Southbank in recent years, you'll have seen the neon pink double decker bus from which Snog sell their delicious frozen yoghurt wares. This very bus was hired out specially for a group of bloggers to unwind after the festival, and to network as only bloggers can beneath neon lights on the top deck of a bus.
I've been to many a blogger event, and they fall into categories of five star, meh, and hmmm...taxi! This one was truly in the top tier, mostly down to the host, Hannah Cox (below), organising brilliant activities for us. If we'd just sat on a bus eating yoghurt, staring out one side at the Thames, and at the Southbank on the other, we might have got a bit bored after a while. Hannah made amazing use of this limited space by starting us off with 'speed-dating' and getting us to all talk to at least five other bloggers with one-on-one time and ice-breaker questions. Then we had a quiz (Angela and I were joint winners with two other teams. Get in!), and just a damn good laugh!
Before we left (and were handed Snog vouchers, yasss!), we all wrote out our blog details on branded cards - Hannah was on event planning fire! - and had a bit of a photo shoot. Loving how everyone was a different colour depending on which light they stood under.
I met such lovely people, some who I'd been talking to on Twitter chats for ages and felt like I knew. When an event is as good as this you leave feeling like being a blogger is being part of the best community ever. Shoutout to Corinne of Skinnedcartree who was there too, but had to go get her train to Leeds before the quiz kicked off. Thanks to Hannah and her Southbank Centre team, and to Snog for good neon bus times.
