eHarmony Movie Night At Dean Street Townhouse

eHarmony Movie Night

Dating website eHarmony invited some bloggers to a private movie screening at the Dean Street Townhouse. This beautiful Georgian house belongs to fancy pants members club Soho House, and has an amazing history of former residents before it became a drinking club in the 1930's, frequented by a definitive list of who's who ever since. Speaking of famous types, when Angela and I arrived we only entered at the same time as Adrien bleedin' Brody! We all climbed a huge flight of stairs where a host guy at the top warmly greeted Adrien and his friend. He then looked Angela and I up and down and said - NOTHING! He literally just looked away. As stunning as the Townhouse is, if you haven't won an Oscar - don't even think about getting a hello there.

In the private screening room eHarmony had a whole array of beverages, popcorn and goody bags waiting for us. It was such a cosy space, and we couldn't wait to see the movie they had chosen - an old black and white film called The Shop Around The Corner starring James Stewart. This is actually the original film that the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan romcom You've Got Mail is a remake of (LOVE that film! Just me?...).

eHarmony explained to us that they chose this movie because the two main characters can barely stand one another, but don't realise that they are each other's secret romantic penpal. They fall in love with the other person's 'true self' through an exchange of letters whilst totally misjudging each other on a day to day basis. eHarmony feels it's so important to get matches right when people can make quick judgements on first meetings - they take time to pair people whose personalities and values will be a good match. Their Compatibility Matching System focuses on the individual and what they want to get out of a relationship, it's not about a numbers game where you're just sent on a load of random (and probably awkward) dates by an agency. Check out their latest TV advert which explains this system hilariously.

eHarmony Movie Night

It's that time of year when thoughts of love and relationships are on people's minds; the winter is cold and miserable, sodding valentines is looming. You watch a movie like The Shop Around The Corner and either feel warmed by the glow of love reflecting back at you, or you want to thrown your popcorn at the screen in anger. Whatever your thoughts on love, if you're single eHarmony is the best non-cheesy and realistic (sorry Hollywood) way to meet the potential love of your life. The proof of this was sitting right next to Angela and I, a couple who met through eHarmony and appeared in their 2013 TV advert. They were so ridiculously loved-up that I (only half jokingly) accused them of being actors. They had only good things to say about the site and the process, so if you're looking for love, what have you got to lose? Thanks eHarmony for giving us this chance to see a film that is completely unavailable to buy in the UK and very rarely screened, and for letting us get to see the Dean Street Townhouse - Pretty Woman-style mean door-host and all!

Have you ever tried a dating website? Do you love love love You've Got Mail? Any thoughts on love, popcorn and Adrien Brody in general - leave me a comment below x
