The Most Expensive Lip Balm Known To Man

I've heard so much about La Mer over the years, including their lip balm, which I think at £58 is the cheapest item in their range. Kate Moss was rumoured to have used their face moisturiser all over her body, though I think that story was probably started in a PR office. I've always been curious about La Mer, although slightly put off not just by the price, but by the fact their name looks like lamer, as in - this is more lame than other brands.A sale (with not much of a discount) makes me emboldened to finally try the La Mer lip balm and see what all the fuss is about.

I've just finished Augustinus Bader's lip balm, which at £32 I thought was already as insane as I was prepared to go. It was actually amazing, though had a weird smell and one tube went by VERY quickly with every day application.La Mer's lip balm is in a pot, which already I don't like because - ew, fingers in it, and I tend to only use pots of balm or lip masks in bed, keeping lipstick style applicator ones in my bag, for times when you can't be having dry lips out on the streets. The pot is pretty, with a heavy mirrored lid, though I'd be happy with cheaper packaging and less of a price tag. This would actually make an extravagant little gift for someone, especially as it's the kind of thing you'd have to be mental to buy for yourself. Ahem.

The verdict is, this is good stuff. It gave my lips a really pretty sheen and made them appear fuller. It lasts for several hours if you're not eating or drinking. My lips felt brilliantly softened and look smoother. All La Mer products have their Miracle Broth, a sea kelp complex that Dr Max Huber accidentally discovered whilst fermenting stuff to try and find cures for healing burns. There's no sea smells you'll be pleased to hear, if anything it's slightly minty. I do think this is great, and would like to try their face moisturiser, but I cannot say this is the best lip balm out there. The Augustinus Bader one worked similarly and is half the price. Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream at £29 is also fantastic for dry lips, and can be used for healing burns too - take that Dr Max!
